Astral Works

Astral Works is the workshop of Elias Sideris. He makes tools, knives and hardware using forging, machining and a good deal of manual hand-and-eye benchwork.

Elias began forging, fabricating, and toolmaking at Hampshire College in 2010. His initial pursuit of bladesmithing led to several years of travel and study in workshops and communities of New England, California, and Europe. His academic studies revolved around the discovery of metalwork and the supernatural and spiritual aspects of technologies and objects in pre-industrial eras. The lifespans and narratives of tools as well as their makers and users has been a constant inspiration and meditation throughout his exploration of making objects, and the concept of heirlooms guides his aims and work.

Astral Works operated in Greenfield, Massachusetts from 2016 to 2019 and is now located in Oakland, California.
