Set of 3 ea forks and knives made by Landers Frary under their Universal brand in New Britain Ct. At one point LF&C was one of the largest knife making outfits in the USA and was a huge kitchen equipment maker as well. These forks and knives typify economically made stamped knives and forks with a quintessentially American hardwood with cast pewter inlay design.
Knives 8 7/8” with 5.25” blade, forks 7.5”
This set is likely from the later half of the 19th century (long before stainless steel replaced carbon steel for table ware use) the fork design with the flat area before the tines suggest later 19th c design possibly. The Univeral marking was used over a long period of time 1865-1965 roughly
Condition is excellent, knives show no sharpening, there is some light patna but no damage, forks show little wear and there are no bent tips. Handles are are secure with no gaps.
Not stainless, do not put in dishwasher
