Iisakki Jarvenpaa Askarespuukko. 60mm carbon steel blade with curly birch handle and leather sheath. 59 grams, 55mm cutting edge, 165mm overall length, 14mm edge to spine.
A good blade for wood carving and whittling.
Carbon steel blades should be kept dry and lightly oiled when not in use to avoid rust.
Iisakki Jarvenpaa (1859-1929) began making knives in the late 1800’s and founded Iisakki Jarvenpaa Incorp. in 1904, which has maintained pace for over 100 years now, continuing to make high quality knives with primarily Finnish materials (the only exception is the steel, which is produced in Germany) in their factory in Kauhava.
Iisakki Jarvenpaa was instrumental in Kauhava knifemaking and contributed many design elements now considered very traditional such as the stacked birch bark handle and the fullered blade.
