Stainless suminagashi damascus clad VG10 stainless steel with linen micarta handle. Nice finish grinding with convex faced blades, polished spine and heels and good finish on the handle. Smooth cutting with good edge life and a beautiful misty suminagashi cladding. Suminagashi means ‘floating ink’ and is the Japanese term for pattern welded steel which is also known as damascus. In itself it doesn’t impart any extra performance to the knife but is a chance for the knife maker to be creative and adds an extra visual dimension to the knife. Avoid scrubbing the cladding with abrasives, but expect small scuffs from use over time. The handle is made from resin impregnated layers of linen which will pick up more of a matte finish over time bringing out the linen weave in the handle.
This series comes with a 80/20 right hand edge on the blade, please note some of the 80% sides have bevels ground into the cladding at the tip. It is possible to grind for ambiddexterous 50/50 if desired.
