Landers Frary & Clark Aetna Works 6" bowie knife with carbon steel blade, nickel guard, stag handle scales and brass pins.
Landers Frary & Clark Aetna Works markings were used from 1865 to 1950 but I suspect this knife is from around 1900 at the earliest as it's guard and handle is nearly identical to one marked LF&C Universal. In 1909 LF&C purchased the trademark Universal from Levi Snow of New Haven Ct. and Universal branded knives were made in a large variety from LF&C.
These are a type of American bowie knife made after the heyday of American bowie knives made in the early to mid 19th century. While not as valuable they have a lot of character.
No sheath.
6" blade, 10" overall 5.7 oz
