Ichibanzumi (first harvest) Nori seaweed sheets from the Ariake Sea in Saga prefecture, Japan.

Ichibanzumi nori is those harvested from the nets at the very beginning of the season, and therefore is extremely precious and only available in small quantities. Given the prestigious A-rank, these nori are sweet, crisp and yet melts in your mouth.

The third-generation president of this seaweed company personally travels around Japan to taste and select the best nori for the year.

He has chosen the Ariake Sea to harvest this grade of nori, as the Ariake is known to produce excellent nori due to its unique natural characteristics. Over 100 rivers flow into the Ariake bay, creating a rich mix of salt and freshwater. Ariake also is famous for having one of the largest water level changes in the world during high and low tide, up to 6 meters (almost 20 feet). This allows the seaweed to bask in the mineral rich ocean water during high tide and also absorb the sun during low tide, deepening the flavor.
