Hand forged after drop forged slicer from Village Blacksmith made in Watertown Wisconsin in the 1920s.  refurbished at Bernal Cutlery with the original style hollow ground blade. While this would be considered as ameat knife today, back when it was made it would have been used as a multipurpose home cooking knife doing much of the vegetable prep that we would consider being in the domain of a chef knife, back in the 20s most home cooks did not have chef knives in the USA.

This pattern is a distinctive Village Blacksmith model based on an older traditional German design, likely a reference to the heavy German immigration to the upper Midwest.
