Triangle upper tapering to squared tips for secure control. Available in Chestnut, Cassia or Zelkova woods. Cassia wood option has an urushi finish.
Chestnut is a dense, tannin-rich tree native to Southern Europe and Turkey. The tannins help prevent damage from moisture adding to its durability.
Zelkova is native to Southern Europe, Southwest and Eastern Asia. In Japan, Keyaki -- a Zelkova species -- is used to produce wadaiko, a traditional Japanese drum.
Cassia, known commonly as Phesantwood due to its stripped appearance, is a dense wood commonly used in furniture making and wood turning. This particular species appears to be unrelated to the cinnamomum cassia cinnamon producing plant or the tropical cassia fistila (commonly Gold Shower Tree) known for it's bright yellow, weeping, bell shaped flowers often used for ornamental or Ayruvedic practices.
Urushi refers to the Japanese practice of used a naturally occurring lacquer to protect woods and other materials from moisture and damage with the capability of producing a gloss finish. We find urushi on knife handles and natural stones as well.
Hand wash and towel dry, do not soak. No dishwasher. Oil or wax as needed.
Length: 230mm
Handmade in Japan
