Hand forged and hand ground after drop forged Lamson & Goodnow 14" chef knife. Light and nimble it has a great feel to it, a great example of the old high skill knifemaking going on in Massachusetts at the height of New England cutlery manufacture with a strong intersection of industrial efficiency and skilled hand labor. Lamson & Goodnow mark with map of the US dates this knife to 1871 at the earliest and style of manufacture looks like 1930's at the latest but this is a guess based on the pinned rather than riveted handle. It has a strong late 19th C to 20's feel to it with its geometry but again, this is a guess.

Blade is super full and has been sharpened in very little, it essentially had a dull factory edge when we found it, and we put a fresh edge on. The wood handle has shrunk a little and looks to have been ground with a belt on the inside and a little glue filling a gap on the spine. None the less a great example of top shelf 19th / early 20th style American knife making.

14 3/8" edge, 2 3/8" wide at heel 5 1/4" handle 9.79 oz
