Morihei Hishiboshi 4000 grit stone is a hazy fine finisher made with natural and man made abrasives formulated for Morihei to his specifications to cut like a natural stone with the consistency of a synthetic. This semi soft stone has an easy going feel, great for wide bevel polishing or narrow double bevel work, it does great in a progression with other Morihei stones. Aside from creating a nice edge these make a beautiful contrast between hard edge forming hagane layer steel and softer jigane cladding. Like a natural stone these are best not soaked although they will not suffer as quickly as a natural from soaking. Just soft enough to generate it’s own mud with sharpening this stone does not require a nagura typically.
This stone is a good choice for a variety of stainless steels or high alloy steels that get a washed out feeling after a few hours of cutting with a finer finish or as a pre-polish for finer synthetic or natural stones.
