Hand forged Nichols Bros chopper made in Greenfield Mass from roughly the 1880s to 1920s. Blade has a very dramatic taper along the tang and the blade, for its weight it is very nimble feeling. Handle is a dark rosewood with brass pin and disc rivets.
Nichols Bros was formed in the 1880s in Greenfield Massachusetts the epicenter of the birth of American industrial knifemaking in the early 19th centruy by the J Russell Co. The father of the Nichols Bros immegrated from Sheffield England to work at the J Russell Green River Works in the 1840s.
