Edward Weck was an immigrant from Solingen who set up cutlery shops in Manhattan and Brooklyn in the 1890s and was involved mostly in razor manufacturing in Brooklyn until his death in the early 1920s, early in his career Weck made other kinds of cultery and as seen here had kitchen cutlery made OEM in France. The razor and surgical tool business was continued by his son in the 1920s and has continued to this day through different corporate ownerships.

This knife looks to have been done in the late 19th or early 20th century withthe fine hand forged blade, and brazed nickel silver ferrule on a slim ebony handle (many older French knives from the 19th and early 20th century have smaller handles than later ones.

This knife has been thinned and re-profiled to bring it back to a good working geometry, it had been sharpened in a bit. The steel on this one was a little harder than the average French knife and could be made nice and thin. There are still a few pits from previous rust and the handle has a little hairline, otherwise it is ready to get to work or join a collection.
