L. & I. J. White 6" cleaver with a laminated mild steel and hard forge laminated steel cutting edge. The handle has a dome shaped ferrule and a grooved corner hard wood handle held with iron pins over a tapered tang. The blade needed a little reshaping at the edge as the previous sharpening was a little subpar, but it is back in business with a nice convex edge. The handle is in great shape, with no usual wiggles in the ferrule or gaps in the tang. Bonus points for small very usable size too!

Wrights Smoke (E.H. Wright Company) manufactured and sold liquid smoke primarily but cleavers pop up now and again with thier logo on it. These were most likely also sold by the company, but could have been promotional gifts for retailers.

Wrights Smoke was founded in 1885 by Ernest H. Wright in Ulysses, Nebraska, and operated in Kansas City, Missouri, from 1898 to 1978. This cleaver is dated from 1898 to 1940, as that is when L. & I. J. White went out of business. It has all the trappings of a turn of the century to 1920s manufacture, however.
