Blade (ironically) marked "True" William Bocking Cutler EBOR works Sheffield, but sharpening steel has the LF&C trademarke "Lee" markings and the knife steel and fork have American "Sterling" marks on ferrules rather than British silver markings.

William Bocking was in business from 1838 to 1945 but it can be suspected that the blade was made before 1891 as "England" is missing from the stamp, the American Tariff act of 1891 required all country of origen on imported items and Sheffield makers generally changed their marks to accomodate this.

None the less, this is a nice set, I do not think that the blade was added to deceive, simeply to replace a damaged blade on the original LF&C set, this English maker is not particularly valuable so this is not an upgrade from LF&C per se.

Fuzzy gold box is a nice find, we were joking about getting a plastic couch cover for it and not letting the family sit on it. "Only for guests".
