Knife dates from approximately 1920 to 1950 and made by LF&C; Landers Frary & Clark in New Britain Ct. likely under their Universal brand, but the marks are lost. Chef knives by LF&C have a very distinctive square shouldered narrow bolster that sweeps in deeply to join the blade, once you recognize this feature its hard to miss. They made knives OEM for many other companies, but LF&C was the only one to use that shape.

This knife was a bit thick behind the edge so we thinned along the sides to bring it back to its original thickness. It's substantial but feels lively in hand and will cut very smoothly with authority. Comes with with a fresh sharp edge.

Handle has a chip on the right hand side, but is still solid and secure, it has been reconditioned with some walnut oil.

At one point LF&C was one of the largest knife making outfits in the USA and was a huge kitchen equipment maker as well, their hand-ground, hand-forged after drop forged kitchen knives were made for professional use and are of excellent quality.
