Windmühlenmesser New Vintage 4.25" Tomato Knife Round Tip Stainless Palisander 1960’s-70’s - Set of 5

Unused vintage 1960’s-70’s era Robert Herder Windmuhlenmesser tomato knives made for the US market. The current president of Robert Herder confirmed the age of these with the specific short windmill blades on the stamp (a mistake from a tool maker doing the stamp) and the hand stamped item number on the box (she would stamp these boxes as a kid in the family knife works on vacations from school). A great time capsule here and testimony to the high quality standards that Robert Herder Company still holds.

Robert Herder Windmühlenmesser knives are made in Solingen, Germany, and are still utilizing old hand-work techniques. Their fine, hand-ground blades are extremely light and thin and offer a great cutting feel that is not possible with chunky, mechanized-ground blades. There is no excess steel on the blades, making them lightweight and thin, and the slight convexity makes for reduced friction and sticking during cutting. Windmühlenmesser has worked hard to establish an extensive apprenticeship program at their workshop, preserving old techniques that have nearly disappeared from Solingen.
