A uniquely designed tawashi that allows for easy grasping while you do the dirty work. The curvature of the front allows for great access to the bottoms of pots and pans, while the handle allows for force. Instead of the traditional palm used for regular tawashis, these are made from the softer fibers of a Cabbage palm leading to less risk of scratching of your most precious cookware and dishes. Palm fibers can withstand repeated water exposure and are durable but not abrasive, making them perfect for scrubbing vegetables and cleaning pots and pans.
While most tawashis are now made in a factory, this tawashi is made by hand by Masatsumu Kitayama who has been making tawashis by hand for over 50 years.
Great tawashis are made by carefully selecting high-quality palm fibers and taking care to create the perfect density, while maintaining a beautiful shape- steps that can only be done by hand.
Mr. Kitayama only selects the softest and best quality palm fibers, and works on each tawashi by aligning the direction of the fibers and ensuring evenness of density. Mr. Kitayama has also cut the fibers for this tawashi to be longer than traditional tawashis, ensuring a good scrub.
