Enamel spoon from Noda Horo.

Horo is glass sprayed on metal, combining the strength of steel and the beauty of glass, and began to be made in Japan in the Meiji period.

As it is glass, it will not discolor over time nor will it absorb any orders or have any chemical reactions with what is inside. It is very easy to clean and maintain. Horo conducts heat very well, while at the same time it also chills easily so it is good for preserving food. Durable especially against acids and salts, hence it is often used as a vessel for storing and creating fermented foods such as miso or pickling.

Noda Horo has been around for 80 years, and their name is known around Japan for their high quality noro products. They are the only horo company in Japan that does every step of the manufacturing for horo, all by hand. They weld the steel to make the base structure, hand spray glass to each product, and fire in their kilns. All of their products are entirely made with parts from Japan.

Things to note:

As it is glass, be careful not to drop it or bang it against anything for it will crack.

Do not use in microwave.

Due to manufacturing limitations, small parts of the product may not be fully covered by glass and the steel underneath may rust if exposed to water or salts for extended periods of time. These parts are minuscule, such as the portion where the product was drying on metal hooks after being sprayed with glass.

Wash with normal detergent and sponge (no metal sponges or metal tawashis), make sure to dry fully.

Do not put in dishwasher.
