Ginormous honyama, solid 'potato stone', hard and fine but smooth feeling and self slurrying, slightly softer than the other massive Atago (#723) that we have at the time of this listing being created . For a harder stone this is very easy to use, it has a crisp but smooth feeling with carbon steels and leaves a very bright slightly sub mirror finish, excellent for knives that will benefit from a fine finish or as a pre-polish for extremely hard mirror finishing natural stones.

These might not agree with extremely high alloy steels or very large carbide alloys.

Atagoyama:

A central mine on Mt. Atago that produces homogeneous stones of various types like Suita and Tomae. Known for their polishing power and not being too hard, unless stated.

Asagi:

This aesthetic term refers to the general color of the stone. Typically, Asagi stones are grey, light blue, greyish-blue/green, and tan. They are usually quite clean stones that are on the harder side. However, softer Asagi stones are great for knife polishing.

Goma:

This aesthetic quality looks like tiny black dots, or little sesame seeds in the stone. This quality typically translates to having a fast cutting speed.
