Sansho is one of the oldest spices in human history, often called Japanese pepper or prickly ash. This product from Yamatsu Tsujita has all of the hallmarks - a bright, citrus-y aroma, it makes your mouth water and your tongue & lips mildly numb. But what makes it special is that it is a delicate blend of three varieties of sansho: Yamaasakura, Asakura and Budo. This produces a depth of flavor that shines through it all. It pairs really well with grilled meats, BBQ eel, scallops, etc.
Due to very low harvests last season, sansho is in very short supply.
Keep in freezer when not using to preserve freshness.
