Hand forged and most definitely American, but not a lot of info about this one as far as the date goes, as it is unmarked. Very consistant for a blacksmith made chopper. 

This was used for home cooking in many parts of the USA before chef knives became common among home cooks later in the 20th century.

Condition is good for a very used chopper, it has been sharpened down some (still has a pretty sharp edge) but not abusively and the handle is tight and secure.
