12" oval medium cut post war F Dick steel with chromed brass fittings and turned wood handle. 

The grooves still have bite although they do not remove too much metal, the larger surface area on the oval surface making for fast honing. 

F Dick steels like these work wonders on vintage knives and even many modern Japanese knives that are hardened up to approx 63 rockwell.
