A beautiful small bowl made from an 8th generation ceramist in the Kasama Yaki style from Ibaraki, Japan.

As each is handmade, there are small differences in glaze and shape.

Kasama Yaki is a traditional style of ceramics with a 250 year history in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. We are honored to work directly with Fukuda-sama, who is the 8th generation ceramist in his family to continue the Kasama Yaki artform. As Ibaraki has long been an agricultural region, farmers took to making pottery during the winter months to stabilize their income throughout the year.

Kasama Yaki uses special clay from the region that has high iron-content, and its main distinguishing feature from other ceramics such as Kutani Yaki is that it is meant for everyday use, not just to be put in a cabinet for display.
