The first incarnation of the 940 Benchmade hit the Atlanta Knife show in 2000. After the success of the 940 the 941 was released with drop-point blade style rather than the reverse tanto style of the 940.

Knife designer Warren Osborne was a native of Australia and lived in Waxahachie, Texas until his death in 2016. He was a full time knife maker and sold his first custom knife in 1980. In 1985, he became the probationary member of the Knifemakers' Guild, leading into serving on the board of directors years later. While he is known for his high-end custom folding knives with elaborately engraved interframes he is probably most known for his collaborations with Benchmade Knife Co.
