J Russell Co Green River Works Carving Set Sterling & Stag 1880's-1910's

Carving set made by the J Russell Green River Works company at their Turner's Falls Massachusetts factory from the 1880's to the 1910's. 

Carbon steel blade has the Diamond J Russell marking, is thin and light with an upswept shape. Russell employed lots of skilled cutlers from Sheffield and there are some tiny hints of that in this set, the grooved bolsters and the turned stag handles having a distinctive Sheffield accent.

Stag handles have a characteristically Russell pattern sterling silver ferrule with a pillowy column and dot motif. 

This set had seen some wear, the very tip of the steel broke and there are some dings to the ferrules, the blade is nice and full though. Despite this it is still a handsome old set and will perform beautifully.
