Sterling silver ladies fruit knife with floral motif on handle scales, silver blade has the Birmingham assay mark (anchor) but the letter looks like a gothic uppercase (G?) which would put it as mid 19th century but the design on the scales looks like later 19th C so it’s a bit confusing dating this one.
Blades are mechanically excellent, no wiggles, the silver bladed knives have a steel spring but the softer silver blades do not snap the same way steel do.
These Victorian fruit knives were used to cut all sorts of fruit with the pick being used to remove pits, Victorians never left an opportunity to use a utensil go unwasted even when on the go, these pre-date the invention of stainless steel hence sterling.
