Forged and ground in an older 19th C style but with more modern designed celluloid handles. The fluted steel is marked “Firth Brearley Stainless”, Brearley is often credited for the invention of stainless steel as he holds the first patent from 1913 but others in France and Germany had already documented making stainless steel.
Stainless steel was not an immediate success as early versions didn’t perform very well. Supposedly Brearley was also credited for inventing a knife that would not cut... Brearley left the Brown-Firth Research Laboratory in Sheffield in the 1920’s and this set likely dates from around that time.
