Slicer made by the great Lamson & Goodnow company of Shelburne Falls Massachusetts with a distinctly New England design seen in the folded steel bolster pinned over the handle scales to prevent spreading and damage to the handle with use and washing.

This knife has some shallow pitting and a few scattered scratches but remains very full and close to its original geometry, it did not require a thinning, just a sharpening and light cleaning. The blade is a forged construction as can be seen from the taper along the tang, it is fairly thin and light but is nice and stiff.

Silas Lamson began making scythe handles in Sterling, MA in the early 1800s. He moved to Shelburne, MA in 1837 and joined with Ebenezer Goodnow to form Lamson-Goodnow Company in 1842, changed to Lamson & Goodnow MFG Co in 1853.
