A beautiful horo (enamel) kettle made by hand in Japan. Can be used on direct flame, IH induction stovetops, and in ovens. Horo conducts heat extremely well, hence it is ideal for boiling water and cooking.
As it is glass, it will not discolor over time nor will it absorb any orders or have any chemical reactions with what is inside. It is very easy to clean and maintain.
Horo is glass sprayed on metal, combining the strength of steel and the beauty of glass, and began to be made in Japan in the Meiji period.
Noda Horo has been around for 80 years, and their name is known around Japan for their high quality noro products. They are the only horo company in Japan that does every step of the manufacturing for horo, all by hand. They weld the steel to make the base structure, hand spray glass to each product, and fire in their kilns. All of their products are entirely made with parts from Japan.
Sometimes water boiling inside appears rainbow colored, or white powder appears. This is due to chemicals naturally in the water (magnesium, calcium, etc) becoming more condensed in the water as it heats, and sticking to the glass. It is important to wash with soap even with just boiling water.
Things to note:
As it is glass, be careful not to drop it or bang it against anything for it will crack.
Recommend to use wood or silicone cooking utensils, do not use in microwave.
Due to manufacturing limitations, small parts of the product may not be fully covered by glass and the steel underneath may rust if exposed to water or salts for extended periods of time. These parts are minuscule, such as the portion where the kettle was drying on metal hooks after being sprayed with glass.
Wash with normal detergent and sponge (no metal sponges or tawashis), make sure to dry fully.
Do not put in dishwasher.
Do not “karadaki” (put on flame without anything inside).
If you happen to karadaki, do not put water inside, just let it cool completely.
