F Dick 12" Flat Sharpening Steel Custom Ebony & Birdseye Rivet Handle 1950s-70s

Post war F Dick 12" sharpening steel with newish custom ebony handle. This is the older non-stainless style sharpening steel from F Dick that was hand forged as shown by the tapering tang.

This steel has some small rust spots but is not too worn in, it is a fine cutting steel better for touching up knives that havent gone dull yet, it is an excellent steel that brings up a fresh edge very quickly and is especially great with older carbon steel knives.

Friedr. Dick was established in the late 1700's in Germany, a small workshop making files. In 1873, Paul Friedrich Dick took over the company and started sharpening steel production growing the company to over 100 employees and branching out to butchers tools and cutlery. Their steels have developed a cult following among butchers and chefs and the old ones are always a great find having a distinctive fast working but never overly aggressive personality.

F Dick steels are and were some of the best European sharpening steels, tempered harder than most and able to both last a very long time and also work on harder steels more reliably.

17.5" overall length
