Wide slicer (originally a narrow chef knife?) made by the great Lamson & Goodnow company of Shelburne Falls Massachusetts with a distinctly New England design seen in the folded steel bolster pinned over the handle scales to prevent spreading and damage to the handle with use and washing.

This knife has some shallow pitting and was originally wider, it is likely that it was a narrow chef knife made in an affordable series, while the bolster is applied the blade is a forged construction as can be seen from the taper along the tang, it is fairly thin and light but is nice and stiff.

Silas Lamson began making scythe handles in Sterling Mass in the early 1800s he moved to Shelburne Mass in 1837 and joined with Ebenezer Goodnow to form Lamson-Goodnow Company in 1842 and changed to Lamson & Goodnow MFG Co in 1853.
