Carving knife from Meridan Cutlery Co. with San Francisco style influenced carbon steel blade, and cast pewter inlayed cow bone handles.
A super interesting one here, a Meriden Cutlery Co 1876 Centennial carving set with a 'California Carver' influenced blade and a classic New England style cast pewter inlay in cow bone handle. This the flat topped area above 'The Centennial' would be a shark fin shape on a California carver but it shares the downswept heel of the california carver.
Meridan Cutlery Co (of Meridan Ct.) as the blade of the knife is marked was used roughly between 1855 and 1924 when the company was bought by cutlery giant LF&C also of Meridan Ct.
Blade is nice and sharp and was not so sharpened down that it required a re-profiling but does have light pitting from previous rust and some scuff marks from past sharpening.
8 1/2" blade 14 1/4" OAL knife, 10 1/4" OAL fork
