Handsome old equal end jack made in the USA for Wyeth's Hardware (1859-89) likely in the late 19th or early 20th century. While the markings don't offer a specific time period, the style of manufacture is definitly old. The deep false edge 'swedge' grinds on the blades and the double rat tail grooved bolsters are very much late 19th early 20th century style. The spines being nearly flush with the bolster closed is a sign of careful manufacture. While the jack knife is usually more of a work knife, this is a good example of finer manufacture and was certainly not the bargain line in it's day.

This knife has been used and carried a lot. The blades have been sharpened down a bit but are still mechanically great; snappy with a half stop. The ebony hafts have a few tight hairline cracks but are otherwise solid.
